[Manila Bulletin]Jang Keun Suk graduates from college

Korean actor, singer and philanthropist Jang Geun Suk has finally completed his college education.

The 26-year-old actor, who starred in such Korean dramas as “You’re Beautiful” and “Beautiful Man,” graduated from Hanyang University in Seoul with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theater and Cinema.

He took to Twitter to post photos of himself wearing a toga at the graduation ceremony.

The actor entered the university in 2006.

During the ceremony, Hanyang University bestowed a special award to Jang Geun Suk for his contributions to the school.

The hallyu star, known for his generosity and his philanthropic works, donated a total of 1.2 billion won (about P50 million) as scholarship fund to the university in the last eight years.

Jang Geun Suk also donated 100 million won (about P4.12 million) for the victims of Typhoon “Yolanda” in the Philippines last December, via the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), as a gesture of support for Filipino fans.

Jang Geun Suk held a fan meeting dubbed “Propose” in Seoul recently, which was attended by over 3,000 people.

Jang Geun Suk donates ₱4M to ‘Yolanda’ relief drive

Hallyu actor and singer Jang Geun Suk has donated 100 million won (P4.12 million) to help survivors of super typhoon “Yolanda” in the Philippines.

Jang Geun Suk, who currently stars in the Korean drama “Beautiful Man,” gave his donation to UNICEF.

His agency, Tree J Company, said Jang Geun Suk made the donation as his appreciation for the fans all over the world who have given him love and support.

As of Dec. 2, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said 5,670 people were reported dead; 26,233 were injured; and 1,761 are missing in the aftermath of Typhoon “Yolanda.”

It said the cost of damage caused by the typhoon is now at P34.36 billion.

The star is known for his charity activities. He has donated to organizations such as World Vision.

Last month, his fans from different countries such as Taiwan, Japan, China, Malaysia and Argentina donated 16.66 tons of rice and other products when the actor held his press conference for “Beautiful Man.”

The items will be donated by the actor to those who are in need.

“Beautiful Man” started airing last Nov. 20. Jang Geun Suk plays the lead role of Dokgo Ma-Te, an ambitious man set to seduce 10 women in Korea. His co-stars are singer IU, Lee Jang Woo and Han Chae-young.

Boy band EXO and SHINee’s Choi Minho became the most searched K-pop group and Korean personality in the Philippines in 2013, respectively.
Google Philippines released its annual year-end Zeitgeist, a collection of the top search queries by Filipinos on google.com.ph.

Leading 2013’s top searches is Hollywood actor and “The Fast and the Furious” star Paul Walker, who was killed in a car crash last Nov. 30.

“Zeitgeist is a tool in discovering the pulse of the people through searches made on Google. With the growing percentage of population going online, Zeitgeist becomes reflective of the issues and topics we’re interested in. This year’s lists speak a lot about our concern for national achievement and progress, while at the same time our curiosity in pop culture issues,” according to Gail Tan, Google Philippines Country Communications Manager.

In the Philippines, EXO topped the list of most searched K-pop groups. This year, EXO surged in popularity with the release of their studio album “XOXO.” EXO visited the country last January and September for concerts.

SHINee placed second on the list followed by Girls’ Generation, Tasty, Infinite, CNBLUE, B.A.P, B1A4, 2PM and Super Junior.

Eight groups on the list have visited the Philippines this year.

SHINee and EXO K performed at the K-pop Republic concert last September at Araneta Coliseum.

Last January, Girls’ Generation, EXO, Infinite and Tasty performed at the Dream K-pop Fantasy Concert along with U-KISS and Tahiti.

Infinite held their “2013 Infinite 1st World Tour: One Great Step” concert in Manila last Nov. 3.

CNBLUE arrived in the country and held their “Blue Moon: 2013 CNBLUE World Tour” last June 15.

Last March 2, 2PM held their first concert in the Philippines, “What time is it” Live Tour 2013,” at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Super Junior returned to the country for their “Super Show 5: Super Junior World Tour in Manila” held last Oct. 24 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

On the other hand, SHINee’s Minho is the No. 1 most searched Korean personality in the Philippines.

Actress Yoo In Na placed second followed by actors Lee Hyun Woo and Ji Hyun Woo, EXO’s Chanyeol, actor Jang Geun Suk, actor Yoo Seung Ho, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, actor Song Joong Ki and actor and Cross Gene member Shin Won Ho.

In the Top 10 most searched TV shows in the Philippines, three were Korean dramas.

“The Voice Philippines” topped followed by “Got to Believe,” “Queen and I,” “Missing You,” “Juan dela Cruz,” “Maria Mercedes,” “Wowowillie,” “The Innocent Man,” “The Heirs” and “America’s Next Top Model” Cycle 20.

“Missing You,” which starred actress Yoon Eun-hye, JYJ’s Park Yoochun and Yoo Seung Ho, aired in the country on ABS-CBN from April to July this year.

Song Joong Ki, Moon Chae Won and Park Si Yeon starred in “The Innocent Man,” which aired in the Philippines on GMA Network from July to October this year.

The Heirs” recently finished its run in South Korea. The drama’s main actors are Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye.

Korean actor Jang Keun-suk has donated big for needy people in the Philippines.

Jang has donated 100 million Korean Won (approximately 94,509 US Dollars) to the Philippines through UNICEF, his promoter Y Tree Media said through a press release on Monday.

To repay enormous support from his fans around the world, he has decided to deliver the money for Filipino people who are suffering from Tropical Storm “Haiyan.”

The “You’re Beautiful” star has participated in various good deeds and donations to return support and affection he has been receiving. His fan club is also active in volunteer works to be inspired from Jang, Y Tree explained.

Meanwhile, Jang’s current TV series “Bel Ami” has been airing on KBS every Wednesday and Thursday 10 p.m. Korea time.

Yes...Philippines already experienced the LOVE in the RAIN with LOVE RAIN starring ASIA PRINCE JANG KEUN SUK and SNSD YOONA..

The Drama started Last June 24, 2013. The Filipino Eels never fail their Prince because Love Rain trends in twitter on its first day.

Jang Keun Suk has been invited to a special year-end concert in China.

According to Jang Keun Suk’s agency, the singer/actor will perform on Hunan TV’s year-end special concert. The yearly concert invites China’s top stars to appear and aired on 16 different broadcasting stations in China last year.

In this year’s concert, Jang Keun Suk and his project group Team-H will appear where they will perform three songs, hold an interview time and show a surprise performance as well.

Jang Keun Suk also has the distinction of being the lone Korean singer to be invited on the show.

Celebrating 20 years in the business, Jang Keun Suk’s faithful fans have dedicated an entire page of the International Herald Tribune to the singer, actor, and entertainer.

On December 22 and 23, Jang Keun Suk covered an entire page of the International Herald Tribune in celebration of Jang Keun Suk’s 20th anniversary since his debut.

27 fanclubs from all over the world presented the advertisement to Jang Keun Suk.

When he was 21, Jang Keun Suk attracted attention for writing in his blog that when he ever has a chance to be in Paris again, he planned to parody a movie and walk down the Champs Elysees while holding a newspaper and a wine bottle and yelling, ‘New York Herald Tribune!’

Jang Keun Suk kept his promise this past July, posting up a picture of himself with a wine bottle and a newspaper. The advertisement event was a reply to Jang Keun Suk from his fans.

After learning about the gift, Jang Keun Suk stated, “Because the International Herald Tribune means something personal to me, I’m greatly honored to be a part of it.”

He added, “I was also very shocked and touched that Asian fans and fans from worldwide gathered together to create this special event. I will do my best to continue marching forward to pay back for the love that I’ve received.”

The International Herald Tribune in an international newspaper written in English and is based in Paris and affiliated with The New York Times Company. The newspaper is distributed to more than 160 countries worldwide.
